it's time for haitian camp 2008 for all the families in or near indiana, no matter what agency you've used, if you're still waiting or have your child(ren) home, etc. - we've at least 2 of these every year & every year it grows bigger & better - if you can't read this (above), please email me & i'll email you a copy - hope to see a lot of new faces!!

no, he's not hurt, sick or upset, but instead he's going to play mr. mom tomorrow morning! - i've got to take ruby for her mapping in the morning & so his schedule will be...

kiara up at 7:15 - feed her, lotion her, clothe her, do her hair (putting in barrettes, ribbons, etc. hehehe), adding douglas her puppy to her backpack since he's going to be her show/tell & she sleeps with him so he can't be added tonight, making sure she remembers her backpack & is at the bus stop at 8am, making sure she gets on the bus alright

karleigh up at 8:00 - feed her, lotion her, clothe her, do her hair (putting in barrettes, ribbons, etc. hehehe), leaving at 8:45 to drive her to school, making sure she remembers her backpack & lunchbox

kiara needs to be picked up at 11:15 & then fed lunch & hopefully i'll be home in time to get karleigh at 1, but we'll see - i know he can do it & does a wonderful job, but still having to get 2 little girls dressed, fed, hair done, gathering all their school stuff, getting out the door on time & getting yourself ready 'during all that' is tough some days & i'm usually the one that does this sort of thing - it'll be interesting to hear karleigh's version of daddy doing the morning stuff, tomorrow when i get home

- SMORTY -

yep, i am at it again! - i am blogging for money!! - yep, i know i have your attention now... am i right? - what i am doing is getting paid to blog on my own blog - how cool is that to get paid for doing what i do anyway... blogging!! - you can blog for money as well if you would like, just click on smorty, fill out the registration & you are good to go - everyone can use extra money and since i am a stay at home mom to 4 girls, we can certainly use it - blogging is what i do in my 'free time' at night after they all go to bed and so to advertise for smorty on my blog is, for me a great thing - my opinion on this is that i can find something to say about pretty much anything and everything (note: the name is chatterbox, remember?) - if 150 words is a minimum, maybe they should give me the cap on the maximum - i will post occasionally to let you know how it is going, but from what i can read and see so far, i think it will work out very well - smorty and me, we are very close!

- BEAUTIFUL FALL LEAVES -

when i look out the window, what do i see? - beautiful fall leaves, up in the tree! (i'm a poet!!) - it's so pretty outside today & when i left earlier, it was very warm as well - even though i don't want to see winter come (i really like to 'see' snow, i just don't like snow... does that make sense?), i really do like this time of year - poor madisyn, when she gets here, she'll freeze - here's a picture of what i see outside my window when working on the computer - see madisyn, it really is pretty!!!

wow, it seems so easy and i would love to try it out - ashop commerce looks like just the place to be if you're wanting to start an online business of your own - since it is web based, there is no installation (how cool's that!) - if you have anything at all to sell online, just grab your shopping cart and you can start selling today using ashop commerce and even accept credit cards online - you can customize the design to meet your specific needs, which is always fun if you ask me - i have heard it said that, "it has never been so easy to sell online" and from what i can see, it is true! - they have got great technical support and customer service that will go out of their way to help you out - they have even got easy tutorials that will walk you through the process step by step so it can not get much easier than that! - they have great shoping cart software and ecommerce software that you can take advantage of as well - i am going to tell everyone i know, that is needing a service like this to go to ashop commerce

i don't know all the details, but heard yesterday that there was a couple (dennis & sandi) from michigan that were in the final stages of adopting their daughter, hannah from china - they both went over the other day with a large group of other adoptive families to meet their daughter & bring her home (along with all the other families that were there with them) - just a day or two into the trip, dennis went into a diabetic coma & has died in china, leaving his wife sandi & their new little girl hannah - apparently when adopting through china, you've got to stay a certain amount of days & sandi can't return to the US until saturday - it was 'iffy' whether or not she'd be able to bring hannah with her as the family dynamics have changed, but they did find out this morning that she indeed will be allowed to bring her 'home' PRAISE THE LORD - sounds like sandi's mother & brother are getting emergency visa's to fly over & help sandi out with hannah & all the arrangements - i've also heard they're a christian family as i'm sure that's all that will get her through this - please pray for sandi as i can't even imagine what all she's going through - pray for hannah too as she's never know the daddy that wanted her so badly - again, i can't even imagine

here's a picture that i took this morning at the bus stop (aka: my driveway) - from left to right: jordon, morgon (J & M are sisters), kiara, daisy, lily (D & L are sisters), mackensie, adrianne (M & A are sisters) - it was misting rain, but they didn't care once they noticed i had a camera - kiara loves going out & standing with her friends... today adrianne even brought candy!!

- MADISYN'S OUT OF PARQUET! -

yep, that's right, she's out of parquet & on to the department of justice - we're just 1 step closer to her coming home - we can't wait till she gets her either - we had someone looking at my blog last night that noticed the 'paypal' link on the left & donated $5 towards getting her home - how blessed we are that others see the need & help fill the gap - it's so appreciated & it's been a blessing to watch her adoption all unfold (here we thought we were only sponsoring a girl in school... who knew!... oh, God did!) - well, i'll be posting when i know more so until then... tata!

- HAIR TIME AGAIN -

boy, 4 weeks seem to go by so quickly when it comes to redoing hair - i began taking hair down today (ruby) & will take karleigh's down tomorrow - i'll then braid karleighs' first as she's got school on tuesday - i'll fit kiara in there somewhere too - we're leaving for ohio for another haitian camp on saturday & it'll be different families that we'll be with so we're very excited! - i'll be sure & post pictures when we return home - well, i'm gonna get off here as i've got early morning rising with the girls, some off to school & some up for their 'salon treatment' - nite

- MY MOM THE REBEL -

i'd no idea that my mom has such a reputation as a rebel - she calls me today to share that she & dad went to steak 'n shake to eat lunch - while there they were greeted by the sweetest woman as she was their server (their 'order' as kiara calls them... because they take your ORDER!) - anyhow, back to the story... this lady introduced herself as shannon & asked what they wanted - while they were ordering, mom looked at her & said, "you look sooooo familiar" - mom then said, "is your mom's name cheryl?" - the lady said, "yes, do you know my mom?" - mom shared with her that yes, she thought she did know her mother (all the while dad's hungry & wanting this conversation to end so 'shannon' can get to work & get him his lunch) - mom & her new friend shannon continue talking not paying any attention to dad - mom said that she & dad went to school with cheryl (wow, we're talking a LONG time ago!.. oh, sorry) - & that they also lived across the street from cheryl when shannon was little, but didn't really know her - shannon thought that was so cool, & she left to go place their order (dad was thrilled) - mom told dad that she was hoping this girl wouldn't continue to press the issue (keep in mind mom's the one that started the whole thing) as mom & cheryl did NOT get along in school (& you thought nana was a sweetheart *cough cough*) - shannon comes back with food (dad's happy) & also brings a pad/paper - "write down your name (maiden name too) on this paper so i don't forget who it was that i talked to today so i can tell my mom", shannon said - mom (swallowing hard) said, "well, alright, but your mom & i didn't like each other at all & never got along, but i'm a christian now & not the same person i used to be" - she wrote her name down & as shannon looked at it she said, "YOU'RE THE MEAN GIRL FROM THE BUS!!"

sidenote: when mom was in high school her best friend was (still is) sue jones - mom says (*cough cough*) that sue & mom sat behind cheryl on the bus one day & sue reached up & messed cheryl's hair up on purpose - cheryl then grabbed some books & swung them around to hit sue, but sue ducked & it hit mom in the face - mom then reached up to cheryl & ripped her coat & the fight was on - mom got kicked off the bus & expelled from school (& she blames poor little sue)

going back to the story now... (recapping) she wrote her name down & as shannon looked at it she said, "YOU'RE THE MEAN GIRL FROM THE BUS!!" - my mom's used you as an example so many times to my brother & myself about how to treat people & being nice to others, etc. - i 'bout laughed my head off as mom was telling me this - she should have known that her 'rebel(ness)' WAS GOING TO BE... blog material!!

we love you so much & can't wait for you to get home - you share a birthday with one of your nephews elijah (happy birthday elijah!!) as you both turned 7 today - just think, when your mama & papi were cheering on what they thought to be their youngest daughter (at the time) as she was giving birth 7 years ago, their youngest daughter (YOU) was being brought into this world at the same time by your haitian mama - we sure hope you enjoyed 'your day' & again...

- THE TUMBLE BUS WAS HERE! -

some of you might have an idea of what i'm talking about, but for those that don't, this' the neatest thing - this brightly colored school bus pulls up in front of your home/school/church, etc. & has all the stuff (pictured above) already in it - the walls are padded, there's slides, climbing things, jumping things, rings to hang on, monkey bars to swing from, etc. - it can hold up to 15 children & 3 adults in with the children at all times & they can play, jump, run, yell, etc. for an hour - karleigh's preschool rented it today & her class got an hour in there & that's all she's talking about since she came home - she had a blast! - it's very brightly colored (as you can see in the above picture) & it's really a gymnasium on wheels for smaller children - they do birthday parties too so if you're interested, do a search for tumblebus or click here & see if they're in your area - we may have to do this sometime as we could combine both karleigh & ruby's birthdays together sometime as one's in january & one's in february - they'd love it!!

- ICE TRAYS & TOILET PAPER -

you might be thinking, "what in the world do these have in common"?, so let me tell you - these are 2 things in the home that apparently ONLY moms know how to take care of!! - whenever i go to the bathroom, there's 1 square left (WHAT CAN A PERSON DO WITH ONLY 1 SQUARE???) - i've got some pretty smart people that live here with me in that everytime they use the toilet paper, they know to 'save mama some' & they do - yep, they sure do - that 1 square sure does a lot... NOT! - from now on, i'm going to start carrying a brand new roll with me so as to be assured to have more than 1 square

moving on to ice trays - these are the things that are in your freezer, that freeze the water to make ice cubes - after they're finished freezing, you take the trays & turn them upside down, dropping all the cubes into a container & refilling them with water - you'll repeat this process once the cubes that were just put into the container, are all used up - by doing this, you'll always have ice cubes to add to your drinks to make them cold, but apparently ONLY moms know how to take care of this proceedure - when i go to get something to drink, there's either ice shavings (yum) or nothing at all & it's at that time i've got to go break ice... AGAIN!

well, i'm calling it a day (yep, it's only 7:59pm), but my chest's hurting & some physical things that began yesterday, that i thought had stopped, have started up again & i'm going to take it easy this evening, sitting down with spike & watching some television - i'll post tomorrow i'm sure

6) Where did you get engaged? at his house in lafayette - he'd come to pick me up & take me to his house - when we got there he asked me & he says it took me forever to answer, i think i was so much in shock i forgot what to say! - (think you know my answer was YES!)

7) Where were you married? at my home church at the time - both of our pastors married us & it was in anderson, indiana

8) How did your reception go? it was great - we'd friends/family there & we'd a wonderful time

9) Where was your honeymoon? we went to gatlinburg, tennessee for a week & had a great time!

10) If you could change anything about your day what would it have been? at that time (NOT NOW) there was tension in the family & i felt somewhat stressed over it, not totally enjoying every aspect of it to its fullest, but........ god's restored all that & it doesn't really matter now

- CHEMICAL IMBALANCE -

well, this was from a conversation that spike & i had last night - nothing had happened & i really don't even know what started it, but it was one of those 'good talks' - for a LONG time, i've dealt with all sorts of things (ie: anger, frustration, being hot headed, impatience, testy, etc., etc.) - i've really had to pray hard over the years for God to help me control this as i didn't want it to get out of control & spill over (if you know what i mean) - it's been a hard road & one we've tended to just keep 'to ourselves' instead of letting others in on it, but it's not always been easy... ok, sometimes it's been hard - i'm one that must have order, i want a daily schedule & i want it to come off without a hitch - i want things done on time & the way that i intended them to get done - i want everyone to be happy, things to not get too loud, everyone peaceable & everyone in good moods ALL THE TIME - when i send one of the kids to get something, i want them back to me instantly!! (ie: brittan, can you get me the phone?... if she's not back from the other room in 5 seconds i can get HOT) - like i said, i've actually done pretty good at keeping this under control, but some days............ - when this beast comes out in me, i feel horrible, like a bad mom, a horrible wife, not worthy of anything God has for me, etc. - i'm down & feel like trash - like i told him, "when i go to do something that's been planned & it doesn't come off as i'd 'planned', i'm a lunatic! - it's as if i can't be flexible!! - my head's saying, "lori, get a grip, (stay seated & pray!), it's not the end of the world - things will work work out even though it didn't come off as expected or in the timing i'd thought, etc.", but my temper's saying, "this' crazy, i've planned it THIS way & it's not working out! - this can't be happening at this time... it wasn't PLANNED!, etc." - he was talking last night & said he wondered if it could be some type of a chemical imbalance - i'm thinking about getting it looked into sometime in the near future, so will post when i hear more - please be praying for this lunatic mother of 5 that tends to live her days in a home where things aren't always 'in order', 'on schedule', doesn't always come off 'without a hitch', isn't always 'on time', or the 'way i intended them to get done', everyone isn't 'always happy', 'is sometimes loud', not always 'peaceable' & 'everyone's not ALWAYS in a good mood all the time'... oh yeah, pray for my family too! *wink*

well, i guess i'm not telling mom how much i love her, so this' to show her & the world... I LOVE YOU MOM! - i knew she's been sick, so today when dustin was here, i sent him back to their house with a box of those new tissues (puffs + with lotion + vicks) - i talked to her later & she said, "lori, i want to thank you for what you did" - i'm thinking, "well, if she's thanking me, it must have been something good, so... tell me what i did" - she said that when dustin brought those to her tonight she cried!! - not because she was sick either, but she told dad that it was my way of saying i loved her - i don't want to have to send my mom tissues to say i love you, so i thought i'd say it here...

- MY SISTER & NIECE -

i received this last night (thanks licia!) & was so happy to see a recent picture of these 2 - madisyn, now 14 & loudnie, now 6 are joining our family(s), soon we hope - these 2 are sisters in haiti & are extremely close & God's allowed both of our entire extended families to be a part of what He's got planned for these 2 - my parents are adopting madisyn (now, my sister) & my sister-in-law's family are adopting loudnie (now, my niece) - it's been cool to watch how God's orchestrated this entire thing when spike & i were just thinking we were just going to sponsor a child so they could go to school & had chosen a teenage girl so she & brittan might get to be 'penpals' & now all these families are linked/involved together to give these 2 girls 'homes of their own' - i can see Him sitting up there thinking, "lori, it's not your idea that you get a teen girl for 'brittan', but it's My idea that I've put in you to cause you to do this... but I'll share all that will you at a later time" - anyhow, i'm grateful to Him for allowing me to be a small part of it & to our families for being willing to embrace these 2 sweethearts - we love you all!!

Welcome To Holland

I'm often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who've not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it'd feel. It's like this......

`

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books & make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags & off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in & says, "Welcome to Holland." "Holland?!?", you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy", but there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland & there you must stay. The important thing's that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine & disease. It's just a different place. So you must go out & buy new guide books. You must learn a whole new language. You'll meet a whole new group of people you'd never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while & you catch your breath, you look around & you begin to notice that Holland has windmills & Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandt's. Everyone you knows busy coming & going from Italy & they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there & for the rest of your life, you'll say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I'd planned." The pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away because the loss of that dream's a very, very significant loss. But, if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ...... about Holland.

Adoption as Grace

Adoptions are a very special way to start or enlarge a family. Thankfully, there are many different ways to go about adopting or placing a child for adoption. To the woman dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, adoption represents an alternative to abortion that she can feel good about. To the couple suffering from an infertility problem, adoption may be the only way that they can satisfy their overwhelming longing to parent a child. To take two separate tragedies... an unplanned pregnancy & a couple grieving over an infertility problem & to combine them in such a way as to solve both problems simultaneously, is exciting beyond words. Through grace, the birth mother makes a painful but heroic decision & is granted the strength to see the decision through. Also through grace, the adopting parents accept a child into their home & bestow on that child their name, their material possessions & the fullest measure of their love & affection. A special bond exists between birth mothers & adopting parents. They've together, through teamwork of a most magnificent kind, created a human being with a soul & personality, in a way which neither could've accomplished without the other. There's no greater human example of grace. Whether we're aware of it or not, no one has a better understanding of the concept of adoption than the Christian. A Christian's, through God's grace, accepted into His family without limitation or restriction & possesses the fullest possible measure of all the rights & privileges of membership in God's family. As Christians, we believe that we're accepted into God's family not due to any virtue of our own, nor because of our works & accomplishments. Rather, acceptance's a function of God's grace. Likewise, an adopting parent accepts a child into his or her family as an act of grace. This' not to say that there's no expectation of a warm, fulfilling & rewarding parent & child relationship. Viewed from the eyes of the adopting parent, however, adoption's more about giving... the giving of love, companionship & the provision of one's material possessions, than it is about receiving. It's beyond the scope of this article to explore the many implications of the concept of grace to the relationship between parent & child. It needs to be stated, however, that the concept of grace's even greater & more profound application to the relationship between adopting parent & adopted child than it does to the more traditional parent & child relationship. This' so because adoption is, by its very nature, a function of grace. In most states, before an adoption can be finalized, the judge actually asks the adopting parents the following question: "Do you understand that if your adoption petition's granted, you'll be entering into a contract with this state, in which you'll be agreeing to treat the child, in all respects, as if you'd given birth to him or her, without exception?" If the adopting parent cannot give an affirmative response to that question with a clear conscience, that person should not adopt. There's no place for differentiation between natural born & adopted children within one family. Such differentiation's the very antithesis of grace.

Pre-Mammogram Exercises

many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there's no need to worry - by taking a few minutes each day with the following exercises a week before the exam, you'll be totally prepared for the test & best of all, you can do these simple practice exercises right in your home

`

EXERCISE ONE: open your refrigerator door & insert one breast between the door & the main box - have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut as hard as possible & then lean on the door for good measure - hold that position for five seconds - repeat again in case the first time wasn't effective enough

`

EXERCISE TWO: go into your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature of the cement floor's just right - take off all your clothes & lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear of the car - ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast's sufficiently flattened & chilled - turn over & repeat for the other breast

`
