- WHAT I WISH FOR YOU... -

we tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse - for my grandchildren, i'd like better - i'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes, homemade ice cream & leftover meat loaf sandwiches - i really would - i hope you learn humility by being humiliated & that you learn honesty by being cheated - i hope you learn to make your own bed, mow the lawn & wash the car - i really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you're sixteen - it'll be good if at least one time you can see puppies born & your old dog put to sleep - i hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in - i hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister - it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, i hope you let him - when you want to see a movie & your little brother/sister wants to tag along, i hope you'll let him/her - i hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends & that you live in a town where you can do it safely - on rainy days when you have to catch a ride, i hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your mom - if you want a slingshot, i hope your dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one - i hope you learn to dig in the dirt & read books - when you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add & subtract in your head - i hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl & when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like - may you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove & stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole - i don't care if you try a beer once, but i hope you don't like it - if a friend offers you dope or a joint, i hope you realize he's not your friend - i sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandma/grandpa & go fishing with your uncle - may you feel sorrow at a funeral & joy during the holidays - i hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window & that she hugs you & kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand - these things i wish for you - tough times & disappointment, hard work & happiness - to me, it's the only way to appreciate life - written with a pen, sealed with a kiss, i'm here for you & if i die before you do, i'll go to heaven & wait for you - send this to all of your friends - we secure our friends, not by accepting favors, but by doing them... paul harvey

- HORTON HEARS A WHO -

well, it was a big HIT! - we took all the girls to see the movie last night & they had a blast - they'd been anticipating seeing it since they heard it was coming out & they were beside themselves all day yesterday waiting on 4:00 to come as that's when they knew we were leaving - we got there, grabbed popcorn & sodas & we were off to find seats - they sat there just giggling, waiting on the previews to end so horton would come on the big screen - all in all it was a fun evening had by all!!

- THE BAPTIST CHURCH -

a very proper lady began planning a week's camping vacation for her & her baptist church group - she wrote to a campground for reservations - she wanted to make sure that the campground was fully equipped & modern, but couldn't bring herself to write the word 'toilet' in her letter - so, she decided on the old-fashioned term 'bathroom commode' - once written down she still wasn't comfortable - finally, she decided on the abbreviation 'b.c.' & wrote, 'does your campground have its own 'b.c.?' - when the campground owner received the letter, he couldn't figure out what she meant by 'b.c.' - he showed it to several of the campers, one of whom suggested the lady was obviously referring to a baptist church since there was a letterhead on the paper, which referred to a baptist church - therefore, he sent this reply:
`
dear madam, the b.c. is located nine miles from the campground in a beautiful grove of trees - i admit it's quite a distance if you're in the habit of going regularly - no doubt, you'll be pleased to know that it'll seat 350 people at one time & it's open on tuesday, thursday & sunday of each week - some folks like to take their lunch & make a day of it - the acoustics are very good, so everyone can hear even the quietest passages - it may interest you to know that my daughter met her husband there - we're also having a fund-raiser to purchase new seats, as the old ones have holes in them - unfortunately, my wife's ill & hasn't been able to attend regularly - it's been a good six months since she last went - it pains her very much not to be able to go more often - as we grow older, it seems to be more of an effort, especially in cold weather - perhaps i could accompany you the first time you go, sit with you & introduce you to all the other folks who'll be there

- WHAT CAN WE DO? -

alright, i need some brain power for this one - kiara will be 6 in may & has been with us since she was almost a year old - out of all our kids, she's the 'whiner' of the bunch & works at perfecting it daily, i'm afraid (we didn't help this, as when she came home, she was the only 'little one' & she was babied more than you can imagine by not only spike & i, but also by her older siblings dustin & brittan)
`
alright, back to the story... she's in kindergarten & has been having some 'issues' there (ie: they all line up to walk to the library & on the way, she 'wanders' into other classrooms - everyday when they arrive at school, they're to write their first/last name on a clipboard, showing their attendance that day - kiara's done this since day 1, but all of a sudden, in the past few weeks, she walks in, drops her coat on the FLOOR, wanders over to the craft table, etc. & there's no rhyme/reason for this behavior - when it's story time, she'll sometimes get up & just walk over, get another book to read & totally ignore what she's being told to do!)
`
i'm really getting frustrated with this as i've got 2 more behind her, mimicking what she's doing - she's also started spitting at her sisters when they don't do what she's wanting them to do - she doesn't do this to anyone else, but to them it's getting more frequent - she also makes VERY mean looking frowny faces when she's not given an answer she wants (she does this to us too) - again, her younger sisters have started too, after seeing her do it
`
don't get me wrong, we're not allowing it & we jump on it every time it happens - we're also trying to take the approach of praising 'good behavior' & that's helped some, but.................. i'm wore out!!
`
even though you all don't know her like we do, she's the most lovable little girl you could imagine - she's the 'mother' of the group & when she's behaving, she's a VERY big help
`
as punishments, we've taken privileges away, toys away, given her an early bedtime, nap times mean sleep time & not just rest time, etc., etc., etc., but i don't feel we're making much headway... any suggestions out there for this weary mommy?? (keep in mind we've got another one coming in a few months & i'd love for this to all be behind us before that happens!!)

- NAME CHANGE!! -

well, we'd decided on D'André René for a boy & Ahniér Mirlande for a girl, but as we were having the girls tell us last night what the new baby's name would be, ruby was having a horrible time saying D'André... UGH
`
with her being deaf, i know we can't always 'fix' things for her, but we just wanted to make it as easy as possible & one less thing for her to have to 'work' on - we went back to the original list & decided to use one of the other ones we loved, so it'll be:
`
boy: Deon René
girl: Ahniér Mirlande

- CAN YOU HELP?? -

nope, not asking for money or a bus (alright a bus would be awesome, but that's not what i'm referring to) - our phone company just transferred over to comcast & they (CC) were nice enough to delete my voicemail (thanks CC!) & never said a word about it - we began getting phone calls from friends saying something about not being able to leave a message
`
i phoned them this week asking about why i didn't receive anything, etc. & they asked for my name, address, phone number, SS#, etc. as i was in the car & didn't have my paperwork at my fingertips - i gave them all the information they asked for, only to be told, "sorry ma'am, but we don't even have you down as being a customer of ours" - "WHAT? - we didn't want to be, but we are, sorry" - i then drove home, went to get my mail, to find what you may ask............ A COMCAST BILL!!! geez
`
anyhow, since i've got to create a new message, i'm wanting some ideas - something family friendly - something 'about us' & something i can insert 3 of our cell phone numbers into (whether that's at the beginning, middle or end)
`
think hard & send me all you can come up with (BEEP)!

- A DAY OF COLOR'ing' -

well, kiara, karleigh & i set out this morning to head to nana's house - we arrived & after eating lunch, the girls wanted to color - we got them situated with their coloring books & crayons & then before we knew it, mom, madisyn & myself were also joining in - we spent the better part of 1½-2 hours of a non-stop color fest, but we had fun!!

- I NEED A BUS! -

we've recently decided to adopt 1 more time (unexpectedly) & the minivan we have now, has enough seats for all of us, but no extra seats at all & no room for strollers, purchases, luggage, groceries, etc.
`
we'd like to find one of these vehicles (above), that's in good shape, one that has lots of seats & room for 'stuff'
`
**a small shuttle bus (like airports use to transport from the parking lot to the airport)
`
**a 'mini' school bus (like they use for some of the special needs children)
`
**a small transport van (like they use to take elderly people from their homes to the hospital, etc.)
`
although we don't have any extra money now, especially with doing 1 more adoption (& then i promise we WILL be finished!) & selling our home to purchase another 'bigger' home to house all of us, i've lots of faith that when we can afford it, 'our little bus' will be there & will be just what we need, when it's needed & at the right price
`
if you're a person out there with tons of these little beauties sitting around & you don't know what to do with them, please let us know & we'd be happy (thrilled, thrilled & more THRILLED) to take one off your hands!! - thanks!

- KARLEIGH SAID, (smiling) "...I HAD NOAH'S NIGHTMARE" -

the other day my best friend angie was telling me that noah had woke up in the night with a VERY bad dream - he was soooooooooo shook by it, that he crawled into bed with her & slept the rest of the night - she even said that he was getting emotional the following day in the car, just thinking about it (so for a 6y boy, you KNOW it was 'big' in his mind) - i mentioned it to spike that evening, but never really discussed it any more - tonight, as i'm sitting her at the computer, karleigh comes out & just stood there - i said, "this better be good or you're in trouble as you KNOW you're not to get out of bed... what's going on??" - as she stood there, thinking of something 'good' to say, she smiled & said, "i'm up, coz i had noah's nightmare" UGH - that girl, she sure thought she'd be able to get by with that too!!

- STARTED OFF 'ROCKY' -

well, on tuesday of this past week, karleigh woke up & stated that she'd a bad headache & was running a fever - over the next few days, it was consistent (headache/fever ONLY) - well, last night we were having 'family night' & she was sitting with me & complained that her legs hurt her - we then went to bed not long after, but this morning when she woke up, her legs just collapsed under the weight of her body (& she's only 34#!!) - i took her to the ER & they think she's dealing with a viral infection as they ruled out most everything else - we're giving her motrin & tylenol round the clock & just watching her basically - she seems to be better now, but are assuming it's the medicine as she's not complaining much at all - i'll post more when i know more, but for now, that's about it
`
mom & auntie madisyn came over today for a bit to visit & that seemed to make everyone feel better (nice warm fuzzies!) - we visited with them, laughed & cut up & then they left, taking with them some videos from our house so they could go home, curl up under some warm blankets & watch some tv (gosh, that sounds like fun!) - madisyn's doing pretty well with this weather too - she wears layers of clothing, but that's alright - she makes sure she's got a hoodie nearby at all times too - well, i've gotta get going so i'll blog more later!

- WE'RE EXPECTING!! -

oh my goodness, i'm just beside myself with excitement!! - yes, you read it right, we're 'expecting', but for sure, this will be the last one (you've heard us say that before, huh?) - how did this happen you might ask?
`
well, we know a birth mom that's expecting & she's been thinking of what her options are (keeping it, giving it up to another family to raise, etc.) - we've known her for a long time & love her dearly & after praying about it, thinking about it, etc., we felt like if adoption was her decision, we'd offer to adopt the baby as it'd be a domestic adoption
`
we talked to her family about it, who had also thought of having her keep the baby & they'd just help her raise it or adopting the child from her themselves & raising it as their own, but they just wanted what was best for her & them & knew god would show them what to do - it was totally her choice & she knew that no one was rushing her into making a decision - after she'd prayed about it for awhile, weighed out her options, thoughts, etc., she told us a few nights ago that yes, she does want us to parent the baby :)
`
we're over the moon about this & although it'll be 'starting over 1 more time', we're up for the challenge & are in awe of what god's done in our lives, for us, for this birth mother & her unborn child - please pray for her & the emotions that she's going through right now & also for us as we're preparing for our new bundle which's due september 5 & we don't know what it is (boy/girl) yet, but will find out on april 15
`
we're also playing the name game daily around here & so far we've come up with & love:
`
boy: D'André René (dee * andré)
girl: Ahniér Mirlande (ahn * yeah)
('Ahn' rhymes with Don)
`
dustin's middle name's wayne, after his grandpa, kiara's middle name's jo after her grandma, ruby's named after me, her mama liz, her nana & her memaw & then this little one will be named after my sister madisyn (providing it's a girl)!!! - how neat is it, that i'm able to honor my sister in this way - it means so much - yeah, i've finally got a sister!!!

- LOTS GOING ON 'ROUND HERE-

well, it's another weekend & wow, so much has happened this week, where do i even begin? - i'll blog about some now & some i'll save for another day
`
on the home front: we've had showings all week long on our home - it's been very good, but man has it been tiring! - we've had at least 1 repeat showing as they're interested & are supposed to make up their mind sometime by the weekend (by my calculations, tomorrow IS the weekend so shouldn't they tell us today???) - we also have another family that keeps inquiring with their realtor about our home, questions that they have, etc., so i'm hopeful there too! - when we sell, that poses a whole different thing like... 'where are we to move until our home's done??' - dad/mom offered to let us stay there due to them having 2 extra bedrooms & we could just bunk up there until our home's built (about 4 months) - our son dustin moved in (taking 1 of the the 2 bedrooms) last weekend, so i keep teasing them saying, "now that offer still stands... right?" - if it wasn't for the bathroom situation (only 1), it'd be alright, but there would be 10 of us & only 1 bathroom-WHEW!
`
i took 2 of the girls to dad/mom's yesterday as we'd not been over there in quite awhile (what am i talking about? - we've not been anywhere in quite awhile!) - they'd a good time & we spent some time with madisyn too - we're still waiting on loundie (for NOTHING!) - all she needs is a visa & she can leave, but they're not issuing it for no reason at all UGH & they've been in this spot since before christmas - pray for ralph/sharel as they so badly want their little girl home & believe me, i know what that's like - i'll blog more later

- I RECEIVED AN AWARD! -

i've been awarded the "free to fly award"
thank you, diane!
`
`
it reads like this:
`
i've wanted to be able to make an award that i could share with some of those blogs that consistently make me laugh, make me think & inspire me to grow & to reach - the types of blogs that do this for me have a few things in common
`
like a butterfly becomes beautiful, by living a quiet life, hidden for a season, while beauty develops on the inside - that same butterfly has to go through a season of struggle before it's free to fly! - once it's free to fly, that butterfly has a beauty we're are blessed to see - everywhere the butterfly goes, it spreads pollen & makes it possible for flowers to bloom & fruit to be developed - you could say it leaves a trail of life in its wake! - what a beautiful thought!
`
butterflies don't go around trying to be beautiful - they don't say, "hey, look at me" - they just ARE, they just DO, they just LIVE - all that time spent hidden in a cocoon, wasn't wasted - the time & effort spent struggling to get out of the cocoon made the butterfly strong & ABLE to fly!
`
i've been blessed to find many women through blogging, who've allowed the struggles of a hidden life, serving in ways that are often unseen & seemingly inconsequential (judging from their lack of entourage, paparazzi & assistants! - that IS what our culture uses as the standard for recognizing importance, right?), to make them strong, make them able to find the humor, able to see the big picture & to find the purpose in the everyday matters of investing in the lives around us
`
their ability to focus on the things that REALLY matter & to allow the struggles of life to strengthen them, leaves everyone they come in contact with a deposit of 'pollen' - a little dose of the grace that's unique to them, which adds wisdom, humor, truth & just a little whiff of the fragrance of Christ that's unique to them! - they're some wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters & nieces - they fulfill all sorts of roles in & outside the home - in their church & outside their church - the world's a more beautiful & abundant place because of the daily choices they make - there are two scriptures for this & they work together: "He's made everything beautiful in its time - He's also planted eternity in men's hearts & minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God's done from the beginning to the end - "ecclesiastes 3:11 & john 10:10" - the thief comes only in order to steal & kill & destroy - i came that they may have life & enjoy life & have it in abundance (till it overflows)" - now I need to pass it on to 5 wonderful people who inspire me:

- I'VE BEEN TAGGED -

i've been tagged by diane so here goes!
`
RULES:
1) link to the person that tagged you
2) post the rules on your blog
3) share 6 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself
4) tag 6 random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs
5) let each random person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their website
6) have fun!
`
MY ANSWERS:
1) i put my shoes on first thing in the morning & they're one of the last things to take off right before going to bed (just like you diane!!!)
`
2) i'm love condensing (if there's 2 lotion bottles partly empty, i'll mix them to eliminate a bottle)
`
3) i'm OBSESSED with clearing our table when we're at a restaurant (stacking all the plates largest to smallest, stacking cups/glasses, placing all used silverware 'all pointing the same way' onto the same plate, gathering trash throughout the entire meal & handing it to the servers as they go by just to get them OFF our table!!... i think i should get a tip for this!)
`
4) when we go to the grocery or department store & we get many bags, i can NOT just toss them in the car, they must all be neat/tidy/stacked orderly, etc. & if one tips/falls over, etc. on the way home, i ALWAYS pull over to 'fix' it & then i feel i can proceed home
`
5) when we go on vacation, i'm stressed a little, a lot - not in packing up to 7 peoples clothing for 1-2 weeks, swimming bags, 3 strollers, diaper bags, camera bags, computer, etc. - nope, it's that i want the inside of the van to look neat - i don't want things crammed, 'unkept' looking, etc. so it's better for me, my family, anyone with a hundred miles of me, to let ME pack
`
6) i absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to play the 'name game' & do it on a very regular basis - i do this if i know someone's pregnant, adopting, getting a pet, if i'm bored, etc. (spike doesn't like playing this game AT ALL... hmmm, i just don't understand him)
`
& I'M GONNA TAG...:
1) angela
2) mom
3) jamie
4) licia
5) lori
6) brittan

- HOUSE FOR SALE -

everyone that prays, please pray that our home sells soon - we've got another showing in 30 minutes & then tomorrow we've got a showing at 9am - we had a showing last thursday & 2 sisters came looked at it, liked it, then went & got their parents as they were looking at the house FOR their parents - they asked if they could have more time (SURE, TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED!), went & got their parents, showed them & we've not heard anything more about it/from them - the showing tomorrow at 9 is with these same people & their parents - we've been told that there are 3 homes they've narrowed it down to, but they all seem to like ours best & are going through them all '1 more time' tomorrow before making a decision - please pray that they love it & that we can sell/move as we're so ready to get on with this thing - thanks & i'll post when i know more (if they want it, i won't have to post, you'll hear me cheering!!)

- MOTHER -

(note: wanted you to know that this story's not about me)
My mom only had one eye. I hated her as she was such an embarrassment to me. She cooked for students & teachers to support the family. There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look & ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, "Ewww, your mom only has one eye!" I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day & said, "If you're only going to make me a laughing stock, why don't you just go off & die?" My mom didn't respond & I didn't even stop to think for a second about what I'd said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings & I wanted out of that house & to have nothing to do with her... ever. So I studied real hard & got a chance to go abroad & study. Then, I got married, bought a house of my own & had kids. I was happy with my life, my family & our 'comforts'. Then one day, my mother came to visit. She hadn't seen me in years & she'd not even met her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children were scared & I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, "How dare you come to my house & scare my children!" GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!! To this, my mother quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry." & she disappeared out of sight. One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. After the reunion, I went to our old shack where I used to live just out of curiosity. The neighbors said that my mother had died, but I didn't shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she'd wanted me to have: "My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I'm sorry that I came to your house & scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the school reunion, but I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I'm sorry that I was such a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident & lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with one eye, so I gave you mine. I'm so proud of my son, who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with one of my eyes. With all my love, your mother.

- ARE YOU 5?? -

well, the other day, they were showing our house (yes, it still hasn't sold) & we had to be out, so i took the girls for a late lunch - we went to a local place we love & when we walked in, we were greeted by an older lady (one might say: she had some years on her, had a rough life, fought in 1 to many battles... & lost, etc.) - as we were being seated, kiara says, "are you 5?" - not hearing kiara, the lady tells us that our server will be with us soon, etc. & louder, kiara says, "BUT ARE YOU 5?" - the lady walks off, still not hearing kiara (i'm sure everyone else did!) & i said, "kiara, why in the world were you asking that lady, if she was 5?? - does she look 5 to you????" - she smiled & said, "she must be 5 cuz she lost 3 teeth, just like i did & i'm 5!" - whew, soooooooo glad she didn't hear her ask the, 'are you 5' question!!

- THE CARWASH -

i took brittan to the carwash right after she came home (at 3.5 years old) - it was the first time we'd done this & she seemed excited - she was all dressed up because after we got the car cleaned up, we were meeting her daddy for lunch - we went through & she was squealing with delight all the way through - when we stopped at the other end, i called back to her & said, "so, did you like that?" - she said, "yeah!" - we got all the way to spike's office, i stepped out to grab her from the back seat, only to find my daughter sitting in her carseat (the carseat that was soaking wet!!!) - i said, "what happened?" - she said, "i don't know, i just rolled my window down & i got wet!!" - we'd gone through the whole carwash with her window down!!! - she'd not said anything going through, nothing when we came out, nothing at all - we'd to go home right then before having lunch as it was winter & it was freezing outside - for a long time after that we'd always say, "make sure the windows are all up", just before going through the carwash - she's a hoot!

- CLACK-CLACK SHOES -

over the weekend, the girls all wanted to sleep with us in our bed - we let karleigh on friday, kiara on saturday & then last night it was rubys turn - everytime someone would move to our bed, the 2 leftovers wanted boo (brittan) to sleep with them - last night she went to head in there & said, "mom, come look at karleigh!" - i went in there to find this sightwe removed them from her & everyone went to sleep - this morning when brittan woke up, she found karleigh with her clack-clack shoes ON! - she asked karleigh when she put them on & karleigh said, "i got up in the middle of the night & my clack-clack shoes weren't on me, so i put them on & went back to bed!" - this girl's so into 'looking good'!

- THE BUNNY -

we were eating lunch today after church & started talking about blogs - dustin went with us & started asking things like, "have you ever blogged about...?" - "are you gonna blog about...?", etc. - we were laughing so hard thinking of the stories he was bringing up, everyone that is... except brittan - the reason she wasn't laughing, was because they were mostly all about her - i've gotta share some with the world so here goes!
`
when she was in elementary school in about 4th or 5th grade, she came home from school one day all shook up - here's how i remember the story:
`
she said that she'd gone out for recess & saw a cute little baby bunny rabbit - now, she knew she wasn't to touch wild animals, but being she's "the boss of her own self!" (phrase she used to say when she was little), she disregarded everything she knew to be true & did it anyway - she picked up this little bunny & carried it around for the entire recess time - she said she would pet it, sniggle up to it with her face, love on it, carry it around like it was her little baby, etc. - then when the bell rang, a teacher noticed what she had & made her put it down - she went into class & was repremanded for her actions & later on in the day, they'd a convocation that was NOT planned - wanna know what it was on??? (scroll down & you'll find out!)
`
HOW YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO PICK UP DEAD ANIMALS
WHEN YOU SEE THEM AS THEY MIGHT (& PROBABLY DO)
