- the family closet -

i've been hearing more & more things about a 'family closet' & we're going to incorporate it into our new house [we just decided this tonight!] - this' where you take 1 room/closet in the house & EVERYONE in the family uses it collectively as a closet [imagine the photo above, only with much more stuff in it!

our family closet will be the master bedroom closet as it's huge & neither spike or i have very many clothes, so we'll have waaaaay more room than we need - this closet's basically a 10 x 10 room & it'll be housing all the clothing, shoes, undergarments, etc. for all 7 of us

spike, myself & brit will have our things on 1½-2 walls & then on the 3rd wall, we're going to hang double racks [one a bit higher than a normal height for hanging clothes & then one a bit lower for shirts, etc.] for all 4 of the younger girls - we'll then have the girls' dressers in there [4 total] & shoe bins for everyone [all color coded] that will sit on the floor underneath the hanging clothes

on the 4th wall, it's split by the doorway, so there's not much wall space on either side - what i'm going to do is put 2 bookcases [1 on each side of the doorway] - this will be where foldable clothing can be folded & placed/easy to get to

we're going to utilize all the space we can, by making an 'island' in the middle of the family closet, where we'll put 2 of the dressers [both the same size], back to back & so it'll make almost a 'table' in the middle - also, it'll have a solid shelf that runs all the way around the top of the closet [above where the clothing hangs] & i'll set rubbermaid bins on it of clothing that the girls can't wear yet

this' stuff i LOVE to do & am soooo excited to get started - i'm going to start looking now for things i can use to stack [ie: bins, etc.] & getting as many ideas as i can - if you've any ideas/pictures, please pass them my way!! - i'm so excited about this project [yeah, i bet spike is too!] & can't wait to dig in there & get it done

this will really help brit out too, as her room's small & her closet's much smaller [tiny], she'll now have the ability to use it for whatever she wants [bookcase, storage, etc.] as her clothing will be upstairs near the laundry room
