- starting week 37 -
WEIGHT/LENGTH
ahniér’s gaining weight at about ½ an ounce per day – since she’s considered full-term now, if she was to leave the wet nest this week, she’d likely thrive - that's because mother nature & mama have done such a fine job - with just 3 more weeks to go & at about 6½ # [though weight & height vary from fetus to fetus], she’s doing just fine - here's an interesting fact: ahniér’s head [which, by the way, is still growing] will, at birth, be the same size circumference as his or her hips, abdomen & shoulders - guess what's making an impression [literally] these days on those shoulders & hips: fat…causing little dimples in those cute elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, creases & folds in the neck & wrists - she’s continuing to grow & gain weight during these last few weeks - also, she’s practicing breathing movements in preparation for the "real world" - she’s anywhere from 19 – 20” long & weighs approximately 6½ # - it’s the calm before the storm as changes in her weight have leveled off with only a few ounces of fat added this week - at this point she should weigh in at around 7 # & be about 20” at delivery
`
WHAT’S SHE DOING?
so what's keeping her busy while waiting it out until D-day…practice, practice, practice!! – she’s simulating breathing by inhaling & exhaling amniotic fluid, sucking on her thumb, blinking & pivoting from side to side [one day you feel the tushy on the left side, another day it’s swung around to the right side] - all these are skills needed for her next gig, starring her as ‘newborn’ - she’ll also turn her head toward light & sound just as a newborn would - around this time her head must be down, if not it could be in a breech position [babies bottom or legs comes into the pelvis first] - by the end of this week, mama’s pregnancy will have come full term & ahniér could be born any day now - happily, as far as internal organs go, they’re now developed enough to function in the outside world although the oh-so-important immune system’s still developing - fighting infection & staying healthy should be well within their physical capacity when this one arrives
